Vartan's love for film began as a nine year old cadet at Southern California Military Academy in Long Beach where he acted in and directed a mock "Twilight Zone" episode for Parent's Day.

As a teenager he sought to capture the mystic and spiritual on film with his still camera and had won awards for photography with some of his works being published in magazines and calendars.

He started off in the film industry as a production assistant for film and television and then moved up to production manager on the feature film Thought Box, and ultimately settled in editing for the last several years.

Recently, he edited the feature length documentary films Earth (2007) and Waking Sleeping Beauty (2009) for the Walt Disney Studios.  Earth is the second highest box-office grossing nature documentary of all time and Waking Sleeping Beauty was the last film that the late Roy Disney (Walt Disney's Nephew) participated in.

Vartan was also the development and musical sequence film editor for the animated rock and roll musical Ruby Tuesday (2011), featuring music by the Rolling Stones, directed by Paul and Gaetan Brizzi who directed the finale film of Walt Disney's Fantasia 2000,  and produced by Mick Jagger and Luc Besson.

Vartan began seriously pursuing film directing while being part of a filmmaking collective called Group 101 Films where one had to make a film every month for waves of six months at a time regardless of excuses of any kind.  While making numerous short films Vartan fell in love with the horror and supernatural genre and found them to be a cinematic playground where he could orchestrate the dance of light and darkness and create powerful drama and at times curious comedy.
