Mark Shostrom

In a thirty-plus year career, Mark Shostrom has created special makeup for some of the most accomplished directors in modern horror and fantasy cinema. Assisting the likes of John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, David Cronenberg, Wes Craven, Stuart Gordon, Don Coscarelli, Tobe Hooper, and Sean Cunningham, to realize their celluloid nightmares, Mark has established himself as one of the premier special makeup artists of his generation.
From humble beginnings assisting Rick Baker on David Cronenberg's visionary sci-fi horror masterpiece Videodrome, to his signature work on Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II, Mark has been responsible for masterminding illusions for some of the most daring and memorable horror films of the last three decades. He designed the stand-out sequence for A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, as well as the many surreal manifestations of Dr. Pretorious in Stuart Gordon's highly regarded classic From Beyond. The latter earned him his first Saturn Award® nomination.
For his combined efforts on Evil Dead II and the terror opus A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, Mark enjoyed the rare honor of achieving two Saturn Award® nominations in the same year. A fourth Saturn Award® nomination came the following year with his work on Phantasm II, creating as well as co-directing the Tall Man's spectacular melting sequence.
In 1996, Mark resumed his association with six-time Oscar®-winning effects artist Rick Baker on such films as Men In Black, The Devil's Advocate, Life and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. For his television work on "The X-Files", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and "Star Trek: Voyager", Mark received four Emmy® nominations in four years, winning Emmys® with three of them.
In 2010, Mark was accepted into the Visual Effects Society, one of only ten makeup artists in this organization of nearlly 3,000 VFX artists. The same year, he formed a new com
pany, Hello Boss Effects, with his partner Maria Amrhein.
