Vincent Delacruz, the 2010 UHF Winner...

said of this experience:

“I had the opportunity to be a guest judge for the 2nd Big Bear Horror Film Festival. One of the “responsibilities” of being a judge was to watch horror movies. And unlike the many times before (he had offered opinions about films to others), I felt my input about the film had weight.

At the festival, I could talk to anyone in the hallway because we shared an interest in horror movies. The crowd was a mixture of film makers, actors, and just horror fans in general.

Most horror fans know about Fangoria and Friday the 13th but at the Big Bear Horror Film Festival we got to hear authorities Kerry O'Quinn and Victor Miller speak about the genre, and then they answered our questions!  That perspective is an invaluable insight, because you gain a better understanding of what goes into a movie you thought you knew.

And for three days, besides watching horror movies, you could have your questions answered from the source, or the authority.  At the end of each day there was a party (on Saturday night it was biggest), though we were celebrating throughout the day.  It is a celebration of horror movies, and those who made them, for those who enjoyed them.

We seek a safe scare, after the first time viewing something that made us jump, because we crave the initial dread, that we can never quite match, but we do try!  And that is what makes the Big Bear Horror Film Festival; it is an event to watch horror movies, but it is so much more that that.  It was organized, produced, and presented by horror fans for horror fans. This year the Big Bear Horror Film Festival will continue to grow and offer something new to be afraid of, and if I were you I would not miss it!”

Mr. Delacruz's bio

Vincent is a student from UC Irvine, studying Criminology, Law and Society. Here he learns the horrors and atrocities commited in real life. His ambition is to curtail them by changing laws and policies of society.

For fun, Vincent likes to watch horror movies with friends, especially with the "screamer" in the group. Viewing horror films together, ensures a good time and a laugh at a late night dinner, when they discuss the experience.

Besides horror films, Vincent enjoys horror/survival video games. His favorite is the Silent Hill ® series, followed by the original Parasite Eve®, ObsCure®, and of course, Resident Evil®. Regrettably, he has not beaten Baroque®, and the Call of Cthulhu®on the XBox®.

Vincent's favorite graphic novel is "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac", by Jhonen Vasquez.

As a teenager Vincent enjoyed scaring other people during Halloween, usually trick or treaters trying to take candy from his friend's house. He was often seen donning the unique costumes he created. In October 2008, Vincent volunteered as a monster for the Pomona Fairplex's "Fearplex Haunt". On October 2009, he haunted a lonely road in a "Haunted Hayride" at the Greenspot Farm, in the city of Mentone. In the future, Vincent wishes to be hired as a monster at the Knott's Scary Farm®, so he will be paid for doing his passion.

Regarding his scare tactics, Vincent noted that, "To scare someone is similiar to telling a joke; it requires timing, originality, and delivery."

Special thanks to Sleepy Forest Cottages for sponsoring our UHF, providing him with a beautiful place to dwell during his stay at the Big Bear Horror Film Festival!
